Augusta area under dense fog advisory

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a dense fog advisory for Augusta and the surrounding counties until 9 a.m. this morning.

The fog is widespread and visibilities could be reduced to less than one quarter mile in certain locations, according to their web site.

It is expected to clear by mid-morning and give way to cloudy weather with a high temperature of 87 degrees.

Richmond County Sheriff's Maj. Richard Weaver urged drivers to be cautious on their morning commutes and to adjust their speeds to the weather conditions.

"Make sure your headlights are on and just use caution," he said.
