A Columbia County sheriff's deputy talks to a motorist entering the Rivershyre subdivsion this afternoon. Police were searching for two burglary suspects that fled from their SUV this morning in the neighboring Woodruff Landing subdivision. One man was arrested at the scene.

Timothy Ware, 25, of Evans, was found in the Rivershyre Subdivision following a tip, Morris said. A third suspect, known only as "Bear", remains at large.

Earlier in the day, deputies said they arrested Maurice Crawford, 30, of Evans, after a brief vehicle chase in which the other two other suspects fled on foot.

Deputies were called just after 11 a.m. by a resident who reported a suspicious vehicle, a green Ford Expedition, slowly riding through residential neighborhoods off Mullikin Road. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, which led them on a brief pursuit before the driver abandoned the SUV on Woodruff Court and the occupants fled on foot.

Crawford was immediately taken into custody, and police soon set up around the area that includes Woodruff Landing, Rivershyre and Maple Ridge subdivisions.

Police are investigating whether items including a flat-screen television found inside the SUV are stolen, Morris said.

Excellent. That's what you get when you come to Columbia County! Police who respond quickly, residents who pay attention (and don't forget the many of us who are armed).

Great job by the CC police.

Great job by the CC police. Many of my good friends work for the department.

Crackerjack... From the article.... Columbia County police arrested one man -- identified as Maurice Crawford, 30, of Evans, -- suspected of burglary and are still searching for two more who ran away after a short car chase off Hardy McManus Road in Evans.

Yeah, we got plenty of scum in CC now countyman. I'll be the first to admit it. But I'd also be willing to bet section 8 played a part in this some how! =)

TAKEASTAND, You say Section 8

TAKEASTAND, You say Section 8 had a part in it how? Why must this be about a social class? Why can't this just be about dumb men who decided to be criminals? Did you say that because they are black? What about the white men who rob? Or the white woman in Florida being held in the killing of her daughter? Or the white one who is suspected in the murder of her stepdaughter? What role did trailers play in that?

GNicole, I think it is safe

GNicole,
I think it is safe to say that you are dealing with a lower social class when you are talking about theives who break into someones home and steal their belongings. I do not think these sorts of people need to be defended, especially since this was MY HOME that was broken into. Section 8 or not, these were thugs, these are criminals and I personally do not care what anyone has to say about their character or lack there of. Black, White or purple the fact is they are in a lower social class, you enter my home pass by my family photos, take my children's toys and have the nerve to do this by backing your piece of junk vehicle into my front yard and unload through my front door... and yet it is them who is being defended because they are black... I wonder how you would feel knowing someone was in your bedroom while you weren't home. I wonder how you would feel to think you went home early from work and someone was not only in your house, but in possession of your loaded 45? Think about who you defend.

Did they steal your gun as

Did they steal your gun as well then? Their crooks, have their hands on a loaded 45, why on earth would they leave that?? And if they did take it, how nice of no one to inform the public of that lil tidbit..
And ignore those who always want to *defend* one race over another, that is always going to happen on here!

Well, they apparently found

Well, they apparently found Mr. Ware.. So only one fugitive to go! He was hiding under someones house. Now, let's see if these two crooks will give up this *Bear* dude. Good luck CC, seeing they have no name or picture of him.

Green Ford Expedition, huh?

Green Ford Expedition, huh? Well what about the Hunter Green SUV that took off headed toward Bobby Jones after the shooting at Cyrus Corners yesterday when the other light-colored SUV took off toward town after going over the curb? Did they find it?

Pommom, Yes they did take the

Pommom,
Yes they did take the loaded 45 and no it has not been recovered. Yes it was very unnerving last night to try to sleep in your home that has not only been invaded by thieves but if you look further by child molestors. They are obviously not just petty theives or they would not have taken a weapon. Since the gun has not been recovered, it would be logical to think the only person (bear) who has not been aprhended would be in possession of this. Yes Columbia County has done an excellent job but none the less it is a awful feeling to say the least.

As a former resident of

As a former resident of Rivershyre, and a law student, first I would like to say that I went to school with one of the suspects, in Columbia County. So, he went to school with your "middle class" children and is not in Section 8 housing, as there is not any available in this county.
I understand that southern, Bible toting, 2nd Amendment upholders enjoy carrying their guns. However, under the law, a person's life is more important than your property. You will be criminally and perhaps civilly charged if you shoot a person who intends you no bodily harm.
It is not okay to rob anyone, but making assumptions about a person's background is unfair due to a disheveled looking person in their MUG SHOT. Hopefully, you all will find it in your hearts to forgive and not to base 3 person's actions on that of an entire group.
