Teen indicted in pregnant girl's slaying

The Augusta teenager accused of shooting and killing a pregnant 16-year-old girl was indicted Tuesday.

A grand jury indicted Loviet Nushawn Edwards, 15, on three counts of murder and firearm charges in the death of 16-year-old Tykiah Palmer, of the 2100 block of Trotters Way. The incident occurred in the 2100 block of Ramblewood Drive on Feb. 17.

Palmer, who was between six and seven months pregnant, was taken to the Medical College of Georgia in critical condition and died in the operating room. Doctors performed an emergency caesarian and were able to save her baby for a short time, but the baby was later pronounced dead a short time later.

Edwards, a freshman at Butler High School, was a friend of the victim's 15-year-old brother and it was an argument between the two that eventually led to the fatal shooting. Edwards and the victim's brother had been play fighting when it escalated. Palmer and Edwards exchanged words; then Palmer slapped Edwards, who pulled a gun and shot her in the chest.

Also indicted Tuesday were:

- Windy Renee Scott, 42, of the 100 block of Fox Trace Drive, on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Police said Scott shot William Lewis Scott, 50, once in the head in the parking lot of the Olde Town BP gas station on Feb. 21.

- Harry Lee Jones, 21, on charges of murder, gun and violation of probation charges. Police said Jones was the shooter in the January fatal shooting of 22-year-old Sergio Campbell at McDonald's on Deans Bridge Road.

Burn'em! Burn'em!

Burn'em! Burn'em! Burn'em!

Ha, hah, Ha!

The sad thing is, even if this kid is convicted as an Adult, he is definitely young enough to easily serve his whole sentence before dying in prison. This means, that this young man will come back to haunt us at a later date. When it comes to people, unlike wine, when you put them in prison they get worse not better with time.

The only alternative I offer is that of the death penalty, but let's be realistic, the jury will feel so bad for trying him as an adult, they will be unwilling to give the death penalty to a 15 year old. Even if he did get the death penalty, he would have that sentence overturned in the Georgia Appellates Court!

Oh Well!

build bigger prisons i

build bigger prisons i say...build'em bigger and more of them i would rather have my taxes increased a lot if it would mean more prisons and "natural life sentences"..you walk in and spend the rest of you life behind bars...then they carry you out at least there will be jobs for those who want to work, building and staffing the prisons

i guess the young lad's

i guess the young lad's parents can look up the hawk brothers i am sure for the "right price" they will allow the case to go to trial waste valuable taxpayers money under the guise of "duh, my client is innocent, he didn't shoot that girl...it was accident" of course the pretrial motions to supress the evidence since they wouldn't be able to produce 1 shred of evidence that he didn't shoot her, like thier clients who butchered that poor woman with a claw hammer. but the will try and win an acquittal of course they might have a change of heart if it was one of their friends/faimly members who were brutally slaughtered or shot dead in the street like a dog....well maybe not as long as the money is green
