DEARING -- An elderly man from Warren County was killed and his wife seriously injured in a single-car crash in McDuffie County today, authorities say.

McDuffie County Deputy Coroner Sandy Yelton said Edward Shaderick Ray, 83, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:17 p.m.

Ray's wife, Marcia R. "Peggy" Ray, 78, was taken by ambulance to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

She had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services.

The crash occurred on Fort Creek Road, about two miles east of Georgia Highway 17 near the Happy Valley community.

Trooper First Class Willie Ramsey of the Georgia State Patrol post in Grovetown said Ray had been traveling west in a Buick LeSabre "when for unknown reasons" he left the roadway, struck a driveway culvert and flipped.

It sounds like the man

It sounds like the man suffered a heart attack or had some medical condition that caused him to lose conciousness. At any rate it is a tragedy.

I was so saddened to hear of

I was so saddened to hear of this tragic accident. I was just as disturbed by the comments made. I knew this very loving, caring, and God fearing man. He was very competent and more than fine to drive. He was a very "young" 83 year old. It infurates me that idiots make bias comments. This family has suffered enough with Mr. Ray dying and Mrs. Ray in serious condition. Lets not make something out of his age when this was not the issue at all. 1941 you must not have enough to do with your time. May I suggest you volunteer working with older people so you can see first hand alot of people that are more capable than you.

1941 you should feel so

1941 you should feel so ashamed. Comments like yours should be banned. Some people just aren't happy unless they can express their backsides.

Such a sad accident. I came

Such a sad accident. I came upon the accident before emergency personal were there. Mrs Ray was able to tell us her name and we talked to her till EMT arrived. Sending lots of thoughts and prayers to her and her family. Bless her heart.
