Warren County man killed in wreck

DEARING -- An elderly man from Warren County was killed and his wife seriously injured in a single-car crash in McDuffie County today, authorities say.


McDuffie County Deputy Coroner Sandy Yelton said Edward Shaderick Ray, 83, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:17 p.m.

Ray's wife, Marcia R. "Peggy" Ray, 78, was taken by ambulance to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

She had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters/first responders with the McDuffie County Fire/Rescue Services.

The crash occurred on Fort Creek Road, about two miles east of Georgia Highway 17 near the Happy Valley community.

Trooper First Class Willie Ramsey of the Georgia State Patrol post in Grovetown said Ray had been traveling west in a Buick LeSabre "when for unknown reasons" he left the roadway, struck a driveway culvert and flipped.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
