Charles Allen Chavous, 59, was arrested today at his home on the 1500 block of Clayton Road in Hephzibah. He is charged with murder, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Peppers was shot to death in his front yard on Feb. 3, 1975. Police arrested William Lawrence Coffey III, 58, in Oklahoma on Feb. 5, 2010,  in connection with what was a decades-long cold case. That same day, investigators arrested Mark Anthony Hill, 53, on Roberson Drive in Augusta on a murder charge.

Police had no record of the killing after the files from the late 1970s and early '80s were destroyed in a flood.  A letter sent from a tipster in August, 2009, reopened interest in the case and ultimately led to the arrests.

Now this case raises too many
Unpublished

Now this case raises too many serious question about what happened in 1975, but judging from the amount of time that has passed, and arrests were made from just a tipster. Wow! That was some tip! We will reserve speculations and hope these are the right killers.

Hey Boogaloo, thats what 30+ years of looking out of the window for the cops to pull in the driveway will do for your eyes.

Before anyone on here decides

Before anyone on here decides to pass judgment(without sufficient evidence) please take into account that this man has a family that loves him dearly & may be reading what you write. Imagine the shoe on your foot before you type.

I agree with VLS about all

I agree with VLS about all these men having families and loved ones. This story gets wierder with the blame on a man who can't speak for himself. Love & prayers for all involved seems most appropriate.

No crime photos, no crime

No crime photos, no crime records, one tip letter, and a dead man accused of being the shooter makes for one weak case.

Vls, I agree. People need to

Vls, I agree. People need to be more understanding that this man has a family and WE do love him. As for boogaloo and esmc, If all you can do is comment on the picture and not the article in question, maybe you need to stick to a picture book and not the augusta chronicle. Reading is for intelligent people. I would rather see this crime solved the correct way and not the sloppy way. Who wrote this letter and had soooooo much knowledge?
