WEST COLUMBIA, S.C.  - South Carolina's lieutenant governor is publicly launching his bid for governor with a statewide tour.

Republican Andre Bauer says he's traveling around the state to hear what's on residents' minds. His 24-hour fly around began this morning at a restaurant in Spartanburg. Bauer plans eight more stops Monday, including his home in Greer.

He plans five stops Tuesday before going to Columbia to preside over the Senate at noon.

The kickoff tour includes visits at colleges, fire stations, gas stations, and hotels.

Bauer has been in the race to replace the term-limited Gov. Mark Sanford. But Bauer had not formally announced his candidacy.

Bauer faces Attorney General Henry McMaster, U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett and state Rep. Nikki Haley in the June 8 primary.
