An Augusta man told authorities he was robbed at gunpoint in downtown Augusta Monday afternoon.
According to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report, the victim was walking at the intersection of First and Telfair streets around 3 p.m. Monday when he noticed the suspect in a vehicle parked on the side of First Street. As he walked past the vehicle, he said the suspect followed him, pointed a gun to his back and demanded his valuables. The victim gave the suspect $550 in cash, a jacket and his cell phone.
The suspect left the scene in a gray Saturn with tinted windows, according to the report.
The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 20 and 25, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds. At the time, he was wearing a camouflage jacket, black skull cap and tan khakis, according to the report.
Interesting how people walking through the "hood" when they get robbed always have a pocket full of cash.
I'm with Emerydan. This is such a common occurrence that it falls in the "dog bites man" category.
Brad - The DDA is a joke, as far as security is concerned downtown. They don't even acknowledge there is even a problem. The Director talks about her living downtown, but she lives in a secured "compound" if you will, not really in downtown. It's a good thing that the guy had something of value -- these worthless punks get really angry if you are penniless @ the time they hold you up. Unfortunately, several of us know from a dear friend's experience with these human pieces of excrement.
Ever notice how in the poorest area of Augusta, people walk around with loads of cash? This is 100% bs. You hide your cash in your shoe or underneath your clothes, and only keep a little bit out in case you're held up. Unless, of course, the robber happens to know that you have a lot of cash on you- like, say for instance, a drug dealer or somebody like that. Just a hypothetical example, you know.
I have to agree with you on this one Corgi, seems like someone with that much cash wouldn't need to be walking. It was pretty cold all day yeserday.
Okay everyone, let's think about this. He was robbed in broad daylight. We don't know anything about who he is or why he is carrying money with him. Someone points a gun and demands everything from him.
1. This is news because it could happen to you or someone that you care about.
2. It is not wrong, immoral, illegal, or stupid to carry cash. It is still a legal form of currency last time I checked.
3. Most of the posts here are blaming or condemning the victim, with very little info to go on.
4. Let's instead hold the person accountable who did this.
