One man is under arrest and three others are still at large after deputies confronted men breaking into cars at Augusta Manor Apartments on Mike Padgett Highway this morning.
Xavius Bell, 18, of Holley Street, is charged with four counts of entering an automobile and theft-by-taking a motor vehicle, according to Richmond County Sheriff's Investigator Aaron Hannsz.
Deputies were called to the apartments at about 4:30 a.m. because someone spotted the men smashing their way into the vehicles, Hannsz said. The men entered eight cars but only stole some a few electronic items from one of the cars.
Hannsz said he was not sure why they did not take anything from the other cars. When deputies arrived, the three men fled and they were able to apprehend Bell after a short chase.
They also recovered a car Hannsz said Bell was attempting to steal as well as another stolen vehicle that was brought to that location.
Xavius Xavius, say it ain't so. Never burglarize as part of a group in which you are the slowest or dumbest or both.
