SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Republican Senator Don Balfour will not run to replace John Linder in the U.S. House.
The Snellville-based lawmaker says he wants to focus on running an efficient Rules Committee. He says he's looking forward to welcoming his son home soon from his service in Afghanistan and focusing on his career at Waffle House.
Balfour announced March 1 his plans to seek the Republican nomination for the 7th congressional district east of Atlanta.
Days earlier, Linder had announced that he would retire after 18 years in the House. The 7th district includes parts of Gwinnett, Barrow and Walton counties.
Balfour says he has enjoyed his 18 years in the Senate, and wants to be remembered in part for helping in the inception the Georgia Gwinnett College.
Eighteen days after announcing? Man, I'm embarrassed for all his friends.
Can someone please explain what "his career at Waffle House" means? It sounds like a punch line to a bad joke....
Who would want a career in politics today? I think I would rather sling the hash at Waffle House to just feel more important and getting something meaningful accomplished.
We need limited term for all politicians. Get rid of the good ole' boy system.
Maybe he found out his attendance in Egypt for an education conference would a little hard to explain. No wonder we are running out of money. I guess nowhere in the old USA was good enough for him. Or maybe he would have been hard pressed to explain the benefits packages for employees at waffle houses.
I'm thinking it's now a requisite for senators to have a career at Waffle House for a minimum of 4 years before running for the state house. The only other route is to have graduated from clown college.
