THOMSON, Ga. -- McDuffie County Finance Director Darlow Maxwell has tendered his resignation citing "serious" health problems.
Mr. Maxwell, who has only served in that capacity for three months, recently disclosed his medical problems and has decided to resign, according to an announcement from McDuffie County Manager Don Norton.
Commissioners were made aware of Mr. Maxwell's decision to step down from the post during an executive session that was held following Tuesday night's commission meeting.
"We regret hearing this news," Mr. Norton said. "Darlow has served us well in the short period of time that he has been with us."
Mr. Norton noted that he and commissioners wish Mr. Maxwell well.
The finance director's last day on the job will be next Friday.
Advertising for a new finance director will begin next week, Mr. Norton said.
McDuffie County is having as hard a time holding on to finance directors as Richmond County is with school superintendents.
I believe that his resignation was 'tendered' not 'tenured'.
I certainly hope that the commissioners don't get weary and settle for 2nd best.
