ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported today that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to a record 10.5 percent in February, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 10.4 percent reported in January.

According to a news release, the February jobless rate was up 1.8 percentage points from 8.7 percent at this same time last year.

For 29 consecutive months, Georgia's unemployment rate has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is now 9.7 percent, the state labor department said.

Is Georgia's unemployment

Is Georgia's unemployment rate really 5.5%? 5% of the population is chronically unemployed and they don't seem to be interested in finding and keeping a job.

The unemployment RATE is

The unemployment RATE is still over 10%. The unemployed numbers about 17%. This is over and above the usual subsidy parasites that numbers about 5%. Thank you Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. How many government educated people remember when the 4.5% unemployment that existed for 4 years straight during the Bush administration (pre-2006) that was called an economic downturn. We now have the Obamanation and we get to see what an economic down turn REALLY is.

lifelongresident, I will

lifelongresident, I will agree that "some" jobs are filled by illegals that some Americans would and could do but a vast majority of Americans are lazy and can "get" just as much money sitting at home doing nothing than they can "make" doing construction or manual labor jobs. Once they find out that these jobs take real WORK they'd rather sit home and collect a pay check from the government.

The problem is that so many

The problem is that so many people are out of work when a job does come open, they have so many applicants that it backlogs the hiring process. I applied for an open position for which I am highly qualified, and they called me and did a "phone" interview, and are supposed to schedule me for a live interview. That was three weeks ago. As of yet I haven't heard back from them. Yes, I will do whatever I have to to continue my unemployment benefits. It is not my fault the economy is in the shape it is in, but I still keep getting bills from GA. Power, my house payment still comes due every month, and one other thing, my family still likes to eat.
