A 33-year-old Augusta man remains in critical condition today after he was shot in the chest Tuesday afternoon.
Jason O'Tyson is being treated at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital for a gunshot wound that police said entered his sternum and exited out of his back, according to Richmond County Sheriff's Lt. Calvin Chew.
Authorities have not yet interviewed O'Tyson and are still trying to piece together what happened during the shooting. So far, investigators said they know Alexander Howard II, 28, of the 2800 block of Ann Street went to a home in the 2900 block of Shelby Drive Tuesday.
Howard - who is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute - told investigators he went to the home to buy drugs. He said somebody told him to go into the back of the house and then a man, whom he believed to be O'Tyson, threw him outside.
Howard broke back into the home and shot O'Tyson in the chest, Chew said. Witnesses in the house dispute Howard's claim about purchasing drugs and said they don't know why he shot O'Tyson.
