AIKEN - Authorities arrested an Aiken man today who is accused of stealing copper and aluminum from an SCE&G substation.
Aiken County Sheriff's Office charged Richard Allen Lowe Sr., 43, of the 700 block of Morton Street, with grand larceny, possession of burglary tools, injury to real property and malicious injury.
Investigators believe Lowe broke into the substation, located on Old Graniteville Highway, around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Concerned citizens called dispatch about a suspicious subject crawling underneath a fence around the energy company's substation. Copper and aluminum jumper wire were stolen from the business.
Lowe is being held at the Aiken Detention Center.
I wonder if this was the guy who hit the 2 churches in New Ellenton 3 weeks ago? My church had 7 a/c units destroyed.
I wonder why the cops never arrest the junk dealers who are fencing scrap metals locally. They're as crooked as the thieves.
