North Augusta officers chase man into woman's apartment

Officers in North Augusta chased a man into a woman's North Augusta Gardens apartment Monday after the man fled during a traffic stop.

Aaron Sherrod Bussey, 31, of 470 Madison Road, is charged with driving under suspension, disobeying a lawful order, giving false information, entering a dwelling with intent to commit a crime and resisting arrest, according to a North Augusta Public Safety report.

An officer stopped Bussey on Knox Avenue at Hugh Street at about 3 p.m. because his passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt, the report said. The deputy talked with Bussey and as he walked back to his car, Bussey left the vehicle and ran on foot.

The passenger in the car, Shauntay Kimbrough, was detained by police and later cited for not wearing her seatbelt, the report said. Officers chased Bussey to the North Augusta Gardens Apartments, 200 West Hugh Street, where he entered a woman's home.

Police found him in a back bedroom and took him into custody, the report said. He later told the officers he ran because his license was suspended for three prior convictions.
