Police are looking for a man who tried to rob a local grocery store this morning.
At about 6:20 a.m., the man entered the Food Lion at 3722 Mike Padgett Highway and picked up a case of beer, according to Richmond County Sheriff's Sgt. Calvin Chew.
The man brought the beer to the clerk then passed a note demanding money. Nervous and scared, the clerk couldn't get the register open so the man walked behind her and pointed a hard object into her back, Chew said.
The woman never saw a gun but despite the threat she still couldn't open the register. The robber then grabbed his beer and ran from the store.
He is described as a black man, about 5-feet, 6-inches tall and about 180 pounds. He was in his late 30s or early 40s, Chew said.
Great job by the clerk, but luckily she wasn't hurt. Hope they catch the scumbag soon.
He probably just wanted some beer battered waffles.
That is the store that I do most of my shopping at.
I hope one day he sticks up a prepared and armed victim.
