Authorities say that a mobile home fire in Wagener on Saturday could have been set deliberately to cover up a homicide.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said that when firefighters reached the mobile home at 226 Buckboard Road about 7:30 p.m. they found the body of George Griffin, 57, a resident of the home. An autopsy today revealed that Griffin had several suspicious injuries and that he died before the fire started.
Griffin's body was seriously burned in the fire, Carlton said. The Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating the death.
