Rough weather may blow through later today

Augusta could see some heavier showers late this afternoon but a band of thunderstorms expected to hit counties west of the city will miss the area.

By about 6 p.m., light showers will turn into heavy rain as a cold front enters the area, according to Chris Liscinsky, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Columbia. The showers should last until about 2 a.m., he said.

Areas west and south of Richmond County - such as Jefferson, Glascock, Warren and Taliaferro - could all see strong thunderstorms. There is a chance of showers in the Augusta area Saturday but the weather is expected to be dry for much of next week.
