COLUMBIA - Police say Appalachian State wide receiver CoCo Hillary and his brother, backup South Carolina quarterback Aramis Hillary, have been arrested after a South Carolina traffic stop.
Authorities say West Columbia officers pulled over a car driven by 22-year-old CoCo Hillary around 12:15 a.m. Thursday because he was doing 46 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Police say Hillary had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent and was charged with driving under the influence. Nineteen-year-old Aramis Hillary was charged as a minor in possession of alcohol.
Aramis Hillary has been indefinitely suspended under South Carolina team policy, while Appalachian State officials say they are reviewing CoCo Hillary's status.
Authorities didn't know if either man had an attorney.
We have South Carolina fans on here and probably some for Appalachian State also and I am sure they think it is news.
I am a SC fan and the news does not make my day one way or the other. YAWN !!
I think these guys played for strom thurmond or silverbluff.
They were both stand out players for Strom Thurond high. That's why it is news. Very highly recruited and reported on in the local media.
wasted opportunity....give and they will recieve..but they will still blow it.
One had a blood alcohol level of .11 and the other simple possession? Hardly major criminals, but illegal none the less. My guess is they were stopped for driving while black since they were barely over the posted speed limit. Both are fine athletes and both still in school. Their respective schools will punish them according to the effort they've made in their sport and grades. I hope this brush with the law is not life changing, just attitude changing. Not many of us are wise at 22 or 19.
No, they were not stopped for driving while black. They were stopped for doing 46 in a 35, more than 10 miles over the limit. Anyone going 10 over in a 35 zone can rightfully expect to be stopped. On top of that, they were speeding in a 35 zone while legally intoxicated. Good pop officer. Wish we had a few around here that would stop more folks for speeding and "sliding and gliding" across lanes. Driving while black is not the issue as much as driving while stupid and dangerous and then claiming driving while black was the reason for the stop.
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the officer stopping them, but it still gives you a kind of bad feeling. Everything was close, including the speed, alcohol level and the underaged drinking. I'm not criticizing the police in any way, but we all kind of wish they had not done it to start with. I was given breaks in SC when I was 20 years old by law enforcement because I was in the Army. I'm eternally greatful. I'm kind of with Johnston on this.
