2 questioned after fake money found at Augusta bar

Authorities are questioning two men police caught with more $660 in fake bills Wednesday night.

The owner of Coyotes nightclub on Peach Orchard Road told the on-duty deputy that one of the men kept coming to the bar and passing fake $20 bills to buy alcohol, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's report.

The bartender became suspicious because the man only brought twenties to the bar, despite her giving him change, Sheriff's Lt. Calvin Chew said.

"The bartender said, 'that's kind of strange because I keep giving him change and he keeps giving me twenties,'" Chew said.

After passing about $300 in fake currency for alcohol, deputies found the men in possession of much more fake cash, the report said. An agent from the U.S. Secret Service is also interviewing the men.

Chew said one of the suspects was in possession of the majority of the fake money and it's likely he will be charged with forgery.

As Vanilla Ice once said in one of his movies,"Dem ain't twenties". Of course he was talking about some rims on a car in that scene.

Coyotes needs to teach their

Coyotes needs to teach their bartenders how to spot a fake bill. Just to let everyone know if the bill feels fuzzy like construction paper the bill was most likely a $5 at some point in time until it was washed and reprinted. This is the most common type of "fake" money being passed around right now. It's also as easy as holding the bill to a light to check if it's real or fake. When holding the bill to the light look for a strip in the bill that will read how much the bill is worth and also make sure the picture that shows up when held to the light matches the face in the middle of the bill.

Bankgirl....how many

Bankgirl....how many counterfeit bills have you come across? Are you trained by the Secret Service to spot a counterfeit bill? And where in the world have you seen a construction paper counterfeit bill? Most counterfeit bills are printed on paper or other bleached out currency. And have you ever been in a bar? Not much light to look at money with...unless you want to hold it up to the dance floor lights! Not everyone works at a bank like yourself...my assumption from you screen name. And if that is so, do you hold each bill that you get up to the light to make sure it's a true bill? I don't think so. With as much money as you deal with at the bank, don't you think the odds are pretty good that you have ACCEPTED and turned around and GIVEN OUT money to other customers? So before you go chastising the bartenders at this establishment, please stop and think about what you write first!
