AIKEN - Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton confirmed today that a child likely caused the auto accident that killed a Warrenville woman Friday.

Jennifer Rose Newsome, 28, was attempting to stop her car from moving while it was parked on an incline in the parking lot of the Imaging Center on University Parkway, Carlton said.

Witnesses on the scene say her 3-year-old son was in the driver seat at the time the vehicle was moving, he said. Newsome attempted to stop the car as it was rolling back.

"Pictures show that it was in between the reverse and neutral gears," Carlton said. "We're drawing the conclusion that the child may have pulled the vehicle into gear."

Newsome died of asphyxiation after 1993 GMC Jimmy rolled on top of her.

Oh how horrible. My deepest condolences to the family. That poor child now has to live without his mother and I know one day he will find out what happened, but I wish he wouldn't. That could be very hard on him though he was not to blame in the least little bit. Poor kid
