Two teenagers were arrested this morning at Butler High School after the brutal beating of another teen Monday.

Gangs in Augusta

The teens -- identified as 16-year-old Berten Blockett and 14-year-old Mark Daniel Richard Musick - claimed to members of a gang called the "Apple Valley Posse" and said they had been prowling the area around Circular Drive looking for someone to attack, Richmond County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Peebles said in an e-mail.

The victim, a 16-year-old Butler High School student whose name was not released, was walking his girlfriend home from school on Circular Drive when police said the suspects and three other boys approached him. The victim quickly called his mother and said he feared he was about to get "jumped" by the other boys.

While he was still on the phone, he was attacked by the boys and had to be taken to the hospital for multiple broken bones to his face. He is currently at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital consulting with surgeons about the injuries, Lt. Peebles said.

In his e-mail, Lt. Peebles said the teens were "completely unrepentant about the attack" and had expressed "amusement with the incident."

They were charged with one count each of aggravated battery and unlawful criminal street gang activity.

Lt. Peebles said the teens had been committed to the Richmond County Youth Detention Center and that they plan to make more arrests.

Anyone with information on the incident can call the sheriff's office at (706) 821-1080.

Oh how amusing it will be

Oh how amusing it will be when these little boys get treated like "ladies" while in da house. Sad thing is, these little punks will be back out on the street in a year or so. Maybe next time, they will find the wrong person to attack.

Capital punishment for

Capital punishment for violent felons such as these punks is the only answer regardless of age.

I am surprised the thugs

I am surprised the thugs identified the gang they were part of. I wonder if this was a no-no on their part? Now the RCSO has the name of a gang they can bust up and put out of business. I wish they would have picked on me. I would have gotten to use my concealed weapons permit automatic on them. But then I would have gotten in trouble for shooting a couple of teens.....

Try them as adults. Send

Try them as adults. Send them away and then let's see if they keep that same attitude. Cowards and punks that's all they are. Hope the young man they attacked will be O.K. It's time to start up the gang task force to deal with the "gang problem" that we "supposedly" don't have. Additionally, it's time for you parents, or single parents, or grandmothers out there to get control of your hoodlums. If not, we'll see your face on TV crying about what a good kid he was after someone shoots him. Too late then!

They should be charged as

They should be charged as adults. It is time to stop this juvenile crime protection crap. Maybe 50 years ago his was a good law but it has now outgrown it's usefulness. I urge everyone to contact your Representative so that this outdated law can be changed.

I think South Augusta

I think South Augusta neighbors should start up sort of a neighborhood gang watch, especially ones who own firearms. Police can't be everywhere, so prevention can be enforced while they're on the way. Do it for the kids who are actually striving to not be losers before they are caught up in the spiral of generational stupidity.

Nevermind. I found it. Sadly

Nevermind. I found it.

Sadly I knew the 14-year-old as a much younger child, as well as his parents, from church of all places. He seemed like a spoiled little narcissist and his parents didn't seem to have much control over him even when he was in the primary grades.

I know his parents are devastated he's turned out to be such a violent little twerp, but I wish they had pounded into him the consequences of acting like a sociopath while it still might have made a difference.

These kids need to be

These kids need to be introduced to the "Scared Straight" program, or boot camp.

They need to be physically

They need to be physically reprimanded until they are in an intensive care unit and can then be sent to a personal care home for the rest of their lives. That's my idea of a "Scared Straight" program.

Both of these kids should be

Both of these kids should be members of the "I brought you into this world and I can take you out" club. They needed a father who would beat their little smirking butts to within an inch of their life and dare them to ever do anything like this again. Fear may not be the most desireable motivator but it is the most effective motivator. Today's little heathens have no fear of ever being punished with anything meaningful. Heck, we don't even punish adults much less "juveniles" and I use that term very loosely. We don't have any juveniles anymore. They are all potential murders and it's your fault parents.

Wow..nice little smirks for

Wow..nice little smirks for the booking photos, huh? The little mongrels were willing to beat someone badly enough that he has broken bones in his face, but they look like they think this is some kind of game. Hopefully a judge will keep that initial lack of remorse in mind when they get to court. No doubt an attorney will counsel them on how to appear like repentant little choir boys by the time they go to trial.

I think it is past time for

I think it is past time for the sheriff to do a flat laydown of how many people he has, how many are on patrol, where those patrol areas are and what he is going to do to stop the madness. I know he is probably busy getting things set up for the Masters, but could he just do a little for the citizens? In any event don't forget to vote for him next election, he is after all a good old boy.

Question? Were these punks

Question? Were these punks on welfare and section 8 housing? If so what is the punishment for the parents not parenting and acting like they support such dirt.

So dissman, it's the

So dissman, it's the Sheriff's responsibility to raise these kids? I will agree, he needs to man up and admit there's a gang problem. But the only way to combat the problem is illegal. The citizens need to stand up and raise a stink that this is tolerated. The little gang members that are found to have come from homes that receive goverment assistance need to have the "benefits" pulled if mama and daddy and/or mama can't raise them like they are bring paid to, they need to lose all federal and state "benefits". You brought them into this world, you take care of them. If you can't, or won't, that money that you were "entitled" to should go straight to the prision system to help defray the cost of incarceration. Maybe things would change if mama saw "her money" being wasted like tax-paying, law abiding citizens witness every day. It's high time the parent(s) are held responsible for this type of behavior. Peope get more riled up and demand accountibilty when someone is mauled by a pitbull. What's the difference here?
