COLUMBIA - A 42-year-old Aiken County woman has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for trying to get her boyfriend to kill her estranged husband and stepson.

Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin F. McDonald says Judy W. Dickson, of Salley, was sentenced in federal court Friday to 87 months. Dickson pleaded guilty in October to asking her boyfriend to set fire to a Shallotte, N.C., home while her estranged husband, Raymond, and his adult son, Ryan, slept inside.

McDonald says Dickson was worried about her divorce settlement and wanted the proceeds from her husband's life insurance policy.

Instead of carrying out the plan, the boyfriend told Raymond Dickson about the plot and taped phone calls with Judy Dickson in which they discussed details of the plot.
