Fort's Gate 5 closing 4 hours Wednesday

  • Follow Latest News

Fort Gordon Gate 5 will be closed Wednesday for four hours, a fort spokesman said this morning.

The gate will be closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday, said Fort Gordon spokesman Buz Yarnell.

The closure is in place so the base can conduct a test on the Active Vehicle Barrier at Gate 5. The barrier is used for protection in case the base should ever need to be shut down.

Please don't tell me that the barrier will take 4 hours to see if they work or not! They either work or they don't and that should take a few minutes at most. I wonder if this is a story of things to come? Surely they are going to cycle these things a couple of times a month to insure the hydraulics are exercised and working properly.
