Child shot while sleeping dies in Ga. hospital

  • Follow Latest News

CHAMBLEE, Ga. - Authorities say an 11-year-old boy who was shot while he slept in his bed over the weekend has died.

Chamblee Police Chief Marc Johnson says Nicholas Sheffey died this morning at Childrens' Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite after being shot in the head by a stray bullet early Saturday morning. Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting in Chamblee.

Johnson said charges against two suspects are being upgraded to murder and a third suspect has been charged with party to the crime of murder.

Police believe Nicholas' 16-year-old brother was the intended target of the shooting in retaliation for a home invasion robbery in December. Police say the suspects fired seven shots through the brother's bedroom window, but Nicholas was struck instead.

Animals do not needlessly,

Animals do not needlessly, nor wantonly, kill their prey--but humans do. This is a terrible crime and the perpetrators should be held accountable for what they have done. If, as the article says, the victim's brother was the intended victim resulting from retaliation for a home invasion, where were the parents in all this? It appears that all involved are teenagers; therefore, the parents should have been supervising their off-spring more closely.

When parents don't know that

When parents don't know that their minor children are out committing crimes, there is a major problem in that home. I knew everything that my son was up to- even when he thought I didn't.

Speaking as the son and the

Speaking as the son and the parent of children who were once teenagers I have to say that you are 100% correct Dominionfs. Don't get me wrong we have raised two adjusted children who have never run afoul of the law and a lot of that is because of the close and sometimes strict parenting skills that my parents taught and practiced on me. However I am not near blind enough to think that some things did not get past me. I know that I slipped a few under my parents radar. ANY parent who believes otherwise is just foolish.
That being said, no matter what the situation, I feel so sorry for the parents of this 11 year old child. No parent should have to suffer that. I thank God he as spared me this faith so far and ask his continued blessings over my children everyday!

I can move if I live in an area where home invasions and drive by shootings are so common. We all choose what chances we'll take. Unintended consequences are worse in some areas than others. As caring parents (as opposed to baby makers) it's up to us to do all we can (as opposed to all we want to) to protect our children.

Chamblee is not the same town

Chamblee is not the same town it was when I was in High school there. It has been "internationalized" by several different ethnic groups. It's a shame that something like this has happened. I feel sorry for the parents. The sixteen year-old needs to be supervised in a military school.

Oh, and I forgot, the suspects should be tried and executed. Two less punks with guns, off the street. The genepool will also be a little cleaner.

We may not know exactly what

We may not know exactly what our children are up to, but I would think most of us know whether or not our kids are a risk for such behavior as murder. Even those who say they had no idea usually recall after the fact that their kid was acting unusual. I do feel for the parents whose kids [minor or adult] do bad things totally opposite of how they are taught, but in this day and age, many kids are emulating the parents' behaviors. Look at the mom who fought alongside her daughter at a high school recently. I remember not too long ago in the news a man who got his young son a gang tattoo, and the mom reported it to the police. It's really scary how some people are teaching their kids anything goes, even hurting others, as long as you get what you want in the end.

Jamie; More folk have been

Jamie; More folk have been killed since evolution began being preached than in all of the 5,000 yrs of history before. WHEREVER the evolution religion is preached crime skyrockets and folk die in RECORD breaking numbers that NEVER occurred BEFORE evolution began being preached as Science.
ALL of SCIENCE PROVES the earth is about 6,-7,000 yr old. A fact that evolutionist admit completely debunks the evolution religion.
