Authorities are searching for a man accused of punching a 14-year-old boy on Sunday.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office will charge Gabriel Galen Golatt of Augusta with simple battery, according to police.

Investigators believe Golatt got in an argument with a woman at the Augusta Lodge in the 1500 block of Gordon Highway around noon Sunday, according to an incident report. The woman has reported Golatt to hotel management on several occassions for suspected drug activity, according to the report.

The woman told deputies her son intervened and told Golatt not to speak to his mother that way. The suspect then punched the boy in his right eye, witnesses said.

Golatt, who is known as "Weed Man," left the scene in a silver Pontiac Grand Prix. He is described as a black man about 5-feet 9-inches tall, weighing 165 pounds.

"Weed Man" huh? Maybe he is a landscaper! I can't believe some folks would make stereotypical profiling allegations about residents in that section of town.

This story is on all kinds of

This story is on all kinds of levels. I agree Brad -- where is Dad to back the fourteen year-old up? Not the best part of town to be raising a family. Hopefully, the fourteen year-old will see what benefit there is to education -- he's living it. And Petey -- "with a name like Smucker's"... Weed Man -- with that kind of nickname, the Sheriff's Office should very familiar with this dude, and he should probably be making license plates, and not on the street. When I read "Weed Man", I almost passed an entire cheese sandwich through my nose -- it might've been a miracle.

Sounds like a mom and her son

Sounds like a mom and her son down on her luck but good people who want nothing to do with drugs, etc. and that's why she has repeatdly reported the man to authorities. I'm certainly not one for enabling but they sound like they could use some help to get into a better environment. Furthermore, all of these scum buckets like weed man who are helping to hold other back need and committing random acts of violence are a blight on our society and need to be removed from public view.
