State Sen. Hardie Davis headed to Atlanta Monday after taking the oath of office for a vacated state Senate seat.
With his wife Evett and 8-year-old son, Benjamin, standing by his side, Davis was sworn in by State Court Judge David Watkins in front of a crowded courtroom. Among the politicians and officials in attendance was Ed Tarver, whose place Davis will take as the District 22 state senator.
Tarver vacated the post last year after being nominated by President Obama to be U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. Last week, Davis defeated former Solicitor General Harold V. Jones in a special election runoff. It could have taken up to two weeks for the oath to be administered, but the process was expedited through efforts of the Richmond County Board of Elections, the secretary of state's office and the Senate. Davis thanked those who stood beside him during the tough campaign, and said he remains committed to moving the community forward together - "one Augusta, one future." "Together we can," he said. "And we did."
AWESOME! Now what are you going to do? What is the first piece of legislation you intend to propose? A change in the City Charter perhaps?
Wish him well even though he is from the give-em-all-they-want party, and hope he will join the effort to change the charter
Don't hold your breath........................................
Well, supported Jones but the election is over now. I hope he does well and I look forward to being proved wrong about where his priorities are. Good luck Senator, you're gonna need it. He ought to stay 'Independent' like U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, that would be an interesting choice and one I could get behind.
