Polling places across Richmond County are quiet this morning as voters head to the polls for the fourth consecutive month in the runoff for the state Senate District 22 seat.
Lynn Bailey, the executive director for the Board of Elections, said she had made a few calls to the polling places this morning and turnout was low so far. Ms. Bailey said she anticipates 10 to 20 percent of registered voters to participate in the election, which is between Harold V. Jones II and Hardie Davis.
"Right now I would say maybe on the lower side of that," Bailey said. "Sadly, so much of that depends on the weather."
Forecasters are predicting rain this morning then a light drizzle later in the day, according to the National Weather Service in Columbia. Although it's wet, temperatures are expected to rise to a high of 48 degrees. I've sat through red lights that were longer than the time it took to vote today. Get out a vote people!
I was going out to vote today in spite of the weather...then I received a robo-phone call from Ronnie Strength supporting Hardie Davis....right after that I got a robo-phone call from the Rev. Martin who supported Harold Jones. I don't think candidates must realize that bad endorsements can cost them votes. Now I don't think I'll vote for either one!
