PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. - The groundhog has spoken. And it's bad news.
Punxsutawney Phil has emerged to see his shadow before chilly revelers in Pennsylvania, meaning winter will last another six weeks.
German tradition holds that if a hibernating animal sees its shadow on Feb. 2 - the Christian holiday of Candlemas - winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will come early.
The Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club annually announces Phil's forecast at dawn on Gobbler's Knob, about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
It was cloudy. There is no way he saw his shadow. The fix was in! Investigation needed!
Shouldn't we wait to see what General Lee says? After all Phil is a Yankee groundhog. He shouldn't count down here!
CyndiCk - General Beauregard has spoken, the link to the results are posted on R&R since this story came out afterwards. Remember, no duping of posts across threads (unless it's Black History Month).
Yeah BetanInyoe, I just read the good news! Can't trust no Yankee groundhog!
Wait 'til the Global Warming crowd gets ahold of this. They're already scratching their heads trying to come up with a positive spin to this story. How much more proof do you need? Punxsutawney Phil has spoken, the debate is over! :P
Oh well, in a few months we will all be griping about it being too hot.
Ya know, Yankee's aren't so dumb at all. In the summer they have nice homes (you really don't need air conditioning) up north, and then when it starts snowing, they have nice places in Florida.
I never really understood the point of Groundhog Day. Whether the groundhog sees its shadow or not, there is gonna be six more weeks of winter, duh.
