Volunteers sought for May cycling event

Many new volunteers will be needed to help with the International Mountain Bicycling Association’s 2010 World Summit that will be held in Augusta May 5-8, according to local host groups who will hold an organizational meeting Tuesday at Enterprise Mill.

The event is expected to bring 400 to 500 bicyclists to the area.

Augusta was chosen as the host city last June, over Madison, Wisc., and State College, Pa.

Previous world summits were held in Park City, Utah (2008); Whistler, British Columbia (2006); Washington, D.C. (2004); and Moab, Utah (2002), according to earlier Augusta Chronicle reports.

Liz Victor, a member of the Southern Off Road Bicycle Association’s CSRA chapter, said at least 100 local volunteers will be needed during the event. Anyone interested in getting involved is invited to attend the 6:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday at the Augusta Sports Council’s conference room at Enterprise Mill.
