Richmond schools off 2 days

Richmond County schools are not only closed today for the King holiday, but will be closed Tuesday as teachers take a furlough day.

Originally, Tuesday had been set aside as a professional development day, and students would have been off for that reason as well. In October, the school board agreed to allow teachers to instead take the day off to account for a furlough day.

Meanwhile, students in Columbia, Aiken, Burke, Edgefield, Lincolnton and McDuffie counties return to classes Tuesday, according to their online calendars.

Aiken County students were last off on a teacher furlough day on Friday.
