Birdie on the final hole secures Sony Open victory in Hawaii

HONOLULU - Ryan Palmer's scrambling birdie on the 18th hole gave him 4-under-par 66 and a one-shot victory over playing partner Robert Allenby on Sunday in the Sony Open and earned him an invitation to the 2010 Masters Tournament.

The rivals started the day tied for the lead and were still tied going to the 72nd hole. Palmer, however, made birdie after coming up short of the green. Allenby, who was long on his approach shot to the green, chipped to within 8 feet but missed the birdie putt.

Palmer finished at 15-under 265. Allenby was at 266 and Steve Stricker, who had 65, was at 267.

Augusta native Charles Howell closed with 64 and tied for fifth place.
