Two arrested in shooting incident

Two men were arrested after a shot was fired outside an Augusta hotel early this morning.


According to Richmond County jail records, Jarell Deangelo Wilson, 26, of the 3600 block of San Sebastian Drive in Hephzibah, was charged with pointing a gun at another and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Kyle Adonis Johnson, 22, of the 4400 block of Sego Road in Hephzibah, was charged with reckless conduct and discharging a firearm near a public highway.

A Richmond County sheriff’s report says that about 4 a.m. a deputy when he heard a gunshot and saw people running outside the Relax Inn at 1365 Gordon Highway. The deputy saw Mr. Wilson come around the corner with a black handgun.

When the deputy told Mr. Wilson to drop his weapon, the man raised his gun and pointed it at the deputy. When he realized it was an officer, he fled and tried to enter a purple Saturn. The deputy stopped the car, arrested Mr. Wilson and Mr. Johnson, and found a black, .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol under the front passenger seat where Mr. Wilson had been sitting.

Mr. Johnson told officers that he had been involved in a fistfight with three men and had fired to protect himself.
