Hephzibah man slain in Tampa; Suspect in jail, another sought

Police in Tampa, Fla., said today they are continuing to search for a suspect in last week’s fatal shooting of a Richmond County man.


Andrew Alan Jones, 21, of Hephzibah, was shot Dec. 20, and pronounced dead the following day at Tampa General Hospital, authorities said. His funeral was scheduled today in Augusta.

Tampa police would not discuss the case this morning, but the Tampa Tribune newspaper reported that Mr. Jones was shot while in a vehicle with Asia Jackson, also of Tampa. Ms. Jackson told police she and her boyfriend planned to rob the victim, and it was her boyfriend who opened the car door and shot Mr. Jones.

Ms. Jackson is in custody, charged with murder in the first degree and attempted armed robbery. police are still pursuing a second suspect, but would not identify him.

Mr. Jones was staying with family members in Tampa at the time of the shooting. Other details about the crime were not released.

Burial for Mr. Jones was to be today in Pineview Memorial Park, North Augusta.
