State election board seeks probe for bogus Richmond voter cards

ATLANTA -- The State Election Board asked this morning for prosecutors to pursue three people who lied to get false voter-identification cards from Richmond County registrars.

The board's investigator, Shawn LaGrua, said her probe concluded two of the cards were sought in order to show they were old enough to buy alcohol.

"We had the same problems in Clarke County," she said.

The board voted to also ask colleges in Augusta to get information to students about the illegality of lying on voter ID cards.

The third person got five cards, all for different addresses and turned out to be a felon who is now a fugitive from the law.
