Columbia County breaks record for vehicle-deer collisions

With more than three weeks left in 2009, Columbia County has set a record for vehicle-deer collisions, Pam Tucker, the county's emergency management director, said today.


Two deer picked up this morning on Mullikin Road and Chalice Circle brought the total for this year to 606, breaking last year’s record of 604, she said.

Roads with a large number of deer pickups, according to Mrs. Tucker, include:

Appling Harlem Highway, Columbia Road, Furys Ferry Road,

Halali Farm Road, Hardy-McManus Road, Harlem Grovetown Road, Hereford Farm Road, Louisville Road, North Belair Road, Ray Owens Road, Tubman Road, Washington Road,

William Few Parkway and Wrightsboro Road.


Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
