A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg during an Evans break-in Monday morning.
A Columbia County sheriffs report says a burglar entered the home in the 500 block of Blue Ridge Crossing about 2:30 a.m. He pointed a handgun at a man sleeping there and demanded money. When the man said he had no money, the intruder took a cell phone from him and went into another bedroom, where a man and woman were in bed.
When the man started to fight him, the burglar pulled his handgun and pointed it at the mans forehead. The woman pulled the handgun down as it discharged, hitting the man in his upper left thigh. The thief grabbed the mans wallet and fled.
The victim was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital for treatment, the report says.
The intruder was described as black, about 6 feet 1 inch to 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing between 200 and 230 pounds, wearing a black, short sleeve shirt and a black T-shirt, black pants, a black cap with white letters, and carrying a black semiautomatic handgun.
