Robert Wrightenberry will not continue as head football coach at South Aiken High School next year, South Aiken principal Bryan Skipper confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Skipper said Wrightenberrys coaching contract will not be renewed, but Wrightenberry, who currently remains on staff as a teacher at South Aiken, will be offered a teaching position for the next school year.
Teaching jobs and coaching jobs are separate, Skipper said. If he wants to come back (as a teacher), he can.
Wrightenberry, who just completed his fourth season as head football coach at South Aiken, led the Thoroughbreds to a 4-7 record this year, the schools fourth consecutive losing season. South Aiken finished third in Region 5-AAA this year, but Skipper said the school will move up to Class AAAA next season.
With us moving back up a change was needed, he said. Basically, were looking at taking our program in another direction, and were going to bring in someone to do that.
