Man, 19, charged in jail rape

An Evans man was charged today in the rape of his 17-year-old cellmate in the Columbia County Detention Center last week.

Bradley Mandela Houston, 19, was charged with sexual battery, said Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

Mr. Houston’s cellmate told jailers Friday morning that the Evans teen came to his bunk during the night and forcibly sodomized him despite several pleas to stop. The Martinez teen was taken to University Hospital for an evaluation, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The victim was moved within the jail to serve the remainder of his sentence for a shoplifting conviction and charges of terroristic threats and acts.

Mr. Houston is being held at the jail on a $3,300 bond, which includes other charges of driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance, according to jail records.
