With President Obama expected to announce tonight a troop increase destined for Afghanistan, officials at Fort Gordon said they foresee no drastic change in day-to-day operations.
Marla Jones, a spokeswoman for the post, said this morning the facility will continue training soldiers and performing their duties at the post like normal.
Virtually all of the 35th Signal (Battalion) is in Iraq so we dont have a lot of people left to deploy and we dont have a lot of people right now, Ms. Jones said.
Members of the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion were deployed to Afghanistan in October their third deployment to the war-torn country.
Currently, 969 Fort Gordon service personnel are deployed overseas, mainly to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In addition to the Army, these include personnel from the Navy, Marines, Air Force and medical units.
