Water main break affecting several Columbia County neighborhoods

A water main break caused several Columbia Country neighborhoods to lose water.

At about 3 p.m., a water main on Hereford Farm Road near Columbia Road broke causing residents in the River Birch and Fairington subdivisions and along Hereford Farm Road, Huntfied Road and Calloway Road Extension to lose water, according to Pam Tucker, Columbia Emergency and Operations Division director.

A pre-recorded message was sent by phone to the affected areas.

Water Utility crews are working to repair the break. Water service will be restored as soon as possible, Ms. Tucker said.

Once water service is restored, resident may notice a discoloration of the water once it is restored. If the water does not run clear after flushing faucets for a few minutes, call the Columbia County Water Utility between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at (706) 863-6928 or after hours at (706) 860-2587.
