1 dead in N. Augusta shooting

A man was killed in a shooting in the 1100 block of Weston Street in North Augusta tonight, according to Lt. Tim Pearson of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.


Paul Joseph Lirley, 35, of Marvin Drive in Aiken, was shot in what appeared to be a drug deal gone bad, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said. Mr. Lirley was pronounced dead at the scene near Crestland Drive and Weston.

The Aiken Coroner's Office and the Aiken County Sheriff's Office are investigating.

Police are seeking a black man who was driving a white Oldsmobile Alero with dark-tinted windows.

The assailant fired five to seven shots at the victim, who collapsed in a driveway, Lt. Pearson said.

The assailant was described as 19 years old, between 5 feet 7 inches ane 5 feet 9 inches tall and between 160 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a black and white hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
