Authorities arrest North Augusta man after standoff

Police arrested Jeffrey Alan Burlage this afternoon after he threatened to kill himself and North Augusta Police Chief John Thomas during a standoff at his residence on Womrath Road.

North Augusta Public Safety received a call at 9:03 that the 50-year-old Mr. Burlage had barricaded himself in his home and was threatening suicide.

During the six-hour standoff, Mr. Burlage threated to kill Chief Thomas.

At 3:15 p.m., Mr. Burlage surrendered to police. He is charged with threatening a public official.


Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
