Athens eighth-grader faces marijuana charges

A teacher called a resource officer to a Clarke Middle School eighth-grade classroom Tuesday morning because a student was acting strangely. The officer took the student into the hallway, searched him and found four bags of marijuana with a street value of $400, Athens-Clarke police said.

The 13-year-old was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, police said.

He was released to his mother.
