Police believe a mentally ill man stabbed a pitbull to death at an Augusta home Friday.
Richmond County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a home in the 2500 block of Milledgeville Road around 1:24 p.m. in regards to a case of animal cruelty, according to a sheriff's report.
The victim stated that her son went to visit an elderly female in the park and attempted to make sexual comments to her. When the victim questioned her son about the incident, he became angry and went to the bathroom where he began to stab their pit bull.
The woman found her pet bloodied and dead, according to the report. Augusta Animal Services was contacted and took possession of the deceased dog.
The victim stated that her son has a mental illness and was off of his medication. The man was transported to Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics for emergency admission.
