From State Fair to Skyfest, entertainment options abound this weekend


The weekend kicks off with big-ticket entertainment options, including a variety of family-friendly events around Augusta, Evans and Fort Gordon. For everything going on, see our events database. Here's a sampling:

Starting Today

GEORGIA-CAROLINA STATE FAIR: Fair opens 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, noon Saturday and Sunday; Friday through Oct. 25, Augusta-Richmond County Fairgrounds, Hale St.; enjoy art exhibits, live entertainment, livestock, needlework and homecrafts and more; $6 regular admission, $16 unlimited rides, $5 secured parking; (706) 722-0202,


BOSHEARS SKYFEST: Gates open 9 a.m., opening ceremonies 1:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Daniel Field, Highland Avenue; $12 advance, $15 at gate; 12 and younger admitted free when accompanied by adult; $10 military, police, firefighters and reserves with picture ID;

MIRACLE MILE WALK: 8 a.m. registration, 9:30 a.m. walk Saturday, Augusta Common, 800 block between Broad and Reynolds streets; three-mile walk to raise money to benefit breast cancer care through University Hospital's Breast Health Center and its Mobile Mammography Unit; (706) 729-5656

OKTOBERFEST AT FORT GORDON: 4 p.m. to close today, 10 a.m. to close Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Fort Gordon’s Barton Field; $20 for wristbands on Friday and Saturday or $10 for ages 8 and under, $10 on Sunday; flea market is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; or (706) 791-6779.

CSRA WINEFEST: 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion, 3300 Evans to Locks Road, Evans; Sample more than 200 wines, plus cheeses and food prepared by local chefs. Cost is $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Tickets available at the Vineyard Wine Market and Ninth Street Wine Market. This is the largest indoor judging and tasting in Georgia.

ROCKTOBERFEST: 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Columbia County Amphitheater, 3300 Evans to Locks Road.
