An Augusta Mall employee was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening after he tried to stop two shoplifters from fleeing.
A Richmond County sheriffs report states that two women entered the store and concealed more than $600 worth of clothing around 5 p.m. at J.C. Penney. When an employee attempted to stop them from leaving the mall parking lot, the suspects hit the employee with their vehicle. The employee was struck on the right shoulder by the rear passenger door as the car was backing up, according to the report.
The employee told police the vehicle appeared to be a Chevrolet Malibu with a Georgia tag of HU88GI. A records check of the tag came back to a different vehicle, a 2003 Kia Spectra.
All of the stolen clothing was recovered, according to the report.
