Arrest made in drugstore break-ins

An Augusta man was arrested Friday and charged with burglarizing Peach Orchard Drugs twice in one week.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s reports and jail records, Justin Scott McGowen, 22, of the 900 block of Horseshoe Road, was charged with two counts of burglary.

An incident report says that a man broke into the pharmacy at 2529 Peach Orchard Rod about 8 a.m. Sept. 23 by cutting a hole in the roof. Security camera footage showed the burglar going behind the store counter and going through the aisles where prescription drugs are stored. An alarm was activated when the burglar left through the front door.

The man broke into the pharmacy again about 6 a.m. Sept. 25, a report says. A security camera showed the burglar removing a vent on the roof. The man went through all the prepared bags of medicine behind the store counter, then placed a stool on the counter and left by climbing out through the open vent, the incident report said.
