THOMSON, Ga. Lacerations that two inmates received at the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center on Monday were "self-inflicted," said Sheriff Logan Marshall.
The sheriff identified the inmates as Terry Jones and Billy Sturkey, both of whom are being held in the county jail until they can be processed into the Georgia Department of Corrections prison system.
Both men had been previously been convicted in McDuffie County Superior Court for various criminal offenses.
Mr. Jones, who was taken to the emergency room of McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson where he was treated and released into the custody of the sheriff. He received a laceration to his arm and received three stitches. Mr. Sturkey, who has tried "several times" to harm himself, received more serious type injuries. He was taken by ambulance to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta. Mr. Sturkey was expected to be released and brought back to the county jail Monday night.
