Police arrest man believed involved in bank robbery today

Authorities have arrested a man that they believe robbed a south Augusta bank this morning.


Richmond County Sheriff’s Office charged Jeremiah Williamson, 23, of the 3000 block of Miranda Road, with armed robbery, and he is being held without bond at the Richmond County Jail.

Around 10:34 a.m., deputies responded to a bank robbery at the Fifth Third Bank, located in the 2700 block of Peach Orchard Road. Witnesses told police the suspect entered the bank wearing a mask, brandishing a black handgun and demanding money. He took an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a small grey vehicle.

An officer recalled taking a missing vehicle report of a similar vehicle earlier today. The owner of the vehicle had loaned his Mazda Millenia to Mr. Williamson.

Deputies located the vehicle around 12:30 p.m. at Mr. Williamson’s sister’s home in the 250 block of Tara Heights Circle. Mr. Williamson was found hiding under a bed.

Mr. Williamson is also being held on charges of burglary, two counts of financial transaction card fraud and a state court bench warrant in unrelated incidents.
