ATLANTA - Two young parents are facing child cruelty charges after DeKalb County police said they delivered a baby boy and placed it in a storm drain where it was discovered Thursday.
Landis Moore told police his girlfriend had given birth in a house and he had put the baby in a storm drain amid heavy rains Wednesday night. Officer Jason Gagnon, a DeKalb County Police spokesman, said he didn't know the baby's condition but that the boy was expected to survive and recover.
Moore, 19, was in custody and had been charged with child cruelty. The baby's mother, who hasn't been identified, is also facing child cruelty charges, but she is currently in a hospital receiving treatment.
Authorities were led to Moore after his 18-year-old girlfriend went to a hospital and told authorities she'd given birth and abandoned the baby.
Police found the baby boy in a drain around 4:30 a.m.
A police spokeswoman said she didn't know if Moore had an attorney.
